So, I went to Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago to pick up a few ingredients they carry like Almond Meal and Grapeseed Oil and became more and more irritated as I picked up random items and read their nutritional labels.
Some form of sugar was in just about everything… okay it was ORGANIC sugar because Trader Joe’s is a “health food store”. BIG DEAL!
It really upset me because I know most people think of Trader Joe’s as a healthy store to shop in… but eating organic is just one ingredient of a healthy life recipe. Sugar free eating is essential for longevity, health and vitality!
Then it dawned on me that over the years many of my clients have asked me if organic sugar is healthier than “regular” sugar. And this is what I told them (in a loud and scary voice)…
HELL NO! IT’S NOT!
For the record, organic sugar is just as unhealthy as regular sugar, period.
An article in the October 2009 edition of “Discover Magazine.” said that Americans eat an average of 61 pounds of refined, white sugar each year!
In recent years, interest in organic sugar has increased as more people become concerned with the potential health hazards of eating refined and processed foods. While there are some differences between organic and white sugar, they both spike your blood sugar and will break down the health of your body if consumed every day.
In conclusion… organic, processed and even natural sugar such as honey, agave nectar, blackstrap molasses or high glycemic fruit is still sugar and therefore unhealthy for your body if consumed too often.
