Recognizing Your Unique Gifts, Skills, and Abilities

Recognizing Your Unique Gifts, Skills, and Abilities by Bryn Blankinship | #AspireMag

Clients often arrive at my office feeling disenchanted with their life because they don’t feel they have anything special to offer or contributeEveryone has gifts or talents that make them unique.  No two souls are exactly the same, not even twins! Oftentimes you don’t recognize your gifts as being special, or they take them for granted, thinking everyone can do what you’re able to do naturallyWhen you begin to recognize and appreciate your own uniqueness, it ignites a remembrance within yourself. You light up as you begin to connect to your soul’s purpose.

You were born with everything that you need inside you—skills, talents and abilities that will support your soul’s reason for incarnating and keep you connected to your soul self for guidance along the wayYou can’t see it, but its “hooked in” at birthThis is why you’re naturally drawn to certain things and not others; possess certain abilities and how you see the world. It’s what makes you laugh at some things and cry at othersAt times you may forget, but when you remember, it initiates a wonderful acceleration of synchronicities in your life.

Life is not a random series of eventsYou are all here by design in an intricate web of complexity created to help you learn and grow with each experience and with lifetimeWhen given glimpses into the soul’s existence, you’re able to more clearly consider our own place in this world recognizing that no life is wasted, there are lessons to be learned in every kind of lifeEvery life has meaning simply by having lived itYour existence affects others one way or the other simply by your having been here!

The Soul-Minded Approach to Living takes practiceIt’s about shifting your perspective to see things differently and knowing that you are not aloneEmpowered with the self-knowledge of who you truly are, you can move forward, with less worry, comforted in knowing that you are here with a purpose and your spiritual team is always with you to help you succeed. Help is available when you need it, you simply have to ask and learn to recognize it when it arrives.

The following journal exercise can help you to begin to discover and identify your own gifts and abilities, many of which you carry with you from lifetime to lifetime. Take time to really look at yourself objectively to uncover the qualities you possess:

  1. One way to recognize your gifts is to look back to your childhood. What kinds of things did you enjoy doing without being told to do them? What activities were you naturally good at in school or in your social life? Were you afraid or curious as a child? Were you outgoing or were you shy?
  2. What gifts, skills, and abilities do you possess?  Do you know the gifts that make you special? Learn to recognize what’s unique to you that you bring with you wherever you goDo people turn to you for leadership, or a sense of comfort, or for a laugh because of your unique perspective on things?  Do you have an upbeat attitude or sense of adventure? Are you a good listener or naturally organized?  Do your talents lie in gardening or are animals naturally drawn to you? Are you good at building things or better at demolition? Are you great at manifesting ideas into reality?
  3. What skills and abilities do you admire in others? What do others tell you they admire in you? Identify the special gifts you bring to your relationships and interactions with others.
  4. What are you naturally good at? What ways can you improve on strengths you naturally have, or overcome areas where you are deficient? What would you like to improve on? What abilities have you cultivated in yourself that you once admired in others? How do you feel about your abilities? How do they help you manage your life? Are you comfortable expressing who you are? What experiences or situations are keeping you from feeling comfortable being your true self? What makes you happy?
  5. Is your energy open and inviting, or restrictive and closed off? Find ways to boost the natural gifts you were born with to make your energy field fresh and new again! What makes you light up? What brings you joy? Go do those things to charge yourself up!

Work with this journaling exercise daily, adding to the list as you discover more about yourself You can also learn to develop new skills and abilities as you recognize and connect more fully to who you truly are. You’ll begin to identify your unique skills, gifts and attributes that make you the special soul that you are. These are things you bring to the table just by showing up and by you being you! They’ve been with you since birth as part of your “birthday suit.”
