Embracing Anxiety as Part of Your Spiritual Guidance System

Embracing Anxiety as Part of Your Spiritual Guidance System by Dr. Debra Reble

There’s no way to escape that fear and anxiety are a part of lifeYou may feel edgy, more irritated than usual, and overwhelmed by anxiety during these turbulent times. Because of this energetic intensity, it is easy to feel ungrounded, and unsettled than you normally do. Yet, you are not alone.

The good news is that right now we are in an intense period of self-healing, self-discovery, and personal and global transformation. Maintaining balance and inner peace can be challenging for all of us right now as we navigate the rough seas of this shift in human consciousness.

However, anxiety doesn’t have to be debilitating. In fact, it can be beneficial when you embrace it as part of your Spiritual Guidance System (SGS). In fact, I have been guiding people for over two decades with great success to embrace anxiety as part of their spiritual guidance system. We all have a spiritual guidance system and once we view anxiety from that perspective, we can use it to guide the positive direction of our lives.

Your Spiritual Guidance System (SGS) is the spiritual information you receive from your spirit, higher self, God, or divine sourcehowever, you refer to it. It’s an emotional feeling, an inkling, intuition, or inner knowing that is trying to get your attention. Anxiety is one of these.

It’s not easy to view your anxiety as a spiritual guide especially from the vantage point of where you are now. But, for the moment, put “anxiety is a bad thing” mindset aside and bring your anxiety close to you like a long, lost friendTrust that your anxiety has served you well and will serve you even more if you accept it and lean into it as a spiritual guide.

Anxiety is a state of physical, emotional, and/or spiritual imbalance. It’s not trying to make your life miserableOn the contrary, it helps you anticipate major life changes and take the inspired steps to create your future. Ishows you there is spiritual information you need to pay attention to and what unresolved issues need to be healedSuch healing can lead to personal transformation and ultimately, making necessary life changes.

Here are three anxiety-soothing strategies to help you embrace your anxiety as part of your Spiritual Guidance System and to discern the spiritual information it is giving you. These sacred strategies target the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of anxiety, take only a few minutes, and can be used anytime.

1.Physically Grounding Your Energies: This practice helps you ground your physical body during times of anxiety or panic. Whenever you feel anxious, your energy tends to collect around the top of your head which can feel like you’re detached from the rest of your body. This rush of energy to your head may feel like you’re unsteady, dizzy, or faint. When you’re ungrounded, you can feel disoriented or discombobulated.

Sit or stand in a comfortable place and gently close your eyes. Take a few deep intentional breaths, inhaling oxygen and life force energy and exhaling anxiety or panic. Begin at the top of your head and direct your energy down through your entire body to your feet. Focus on how your feet feel against the floor or ground. Once you have focused your attention here, tap your feet on the ground until you really feel the energy here.

Visualize your energy going down into the earth beneath your feet as if you were a tree rooting into the ground. Stay here and release your energies into the ground for detoxingOpen your eyes and stay here a few moments.

Repeat this practice as many times as you need until you feel your energies redistributed and rebalanced. Doing this outside in nature on grass or moss enhances the grounding and calming effect. You can also do this with your eyes open and mindfully moving. Use this grounding exercise when you move through transitions throughout your day so that it becomes a healthy habit.

You can also ground your energies by tapping your feet against the earth, carrying your favorite gemstone in your pocket, or taking deep intentional breaths at every natural pause in your day. A regular grounding practice can help you remain calm when you find yourself in anxiety-producing situations.

2.Dropping into Your Heart Space: When you drop into your heart space, you can remain emotionally calm like the eye at the center of a tornado even as your thoughts swirl around you. Focusing your attention on your heart center doesn’t just calm an anxiety-ridden brain; it also brings your head (fear) and your heart (trust) into energetic coherence. Just by bringing your attention from your head to your heart, you bring yourself into the peaceful present where anxiety doesn’t exist.

Dropping into your heart space gives you a break from your anxious thoughts and an opportunity to recalibrate your energies. It allows you to pause and tune in to what’s going on within you.

Close your eyes and gently place a hand at center of your chest. Take a few intentional deep breaths, bring your attention to your hand, and drop down into your heart space. Take several deep breaths. Do this several times until your heart opens and you feel a shift in your breathing.

Visualize a pearl of while light in your heart. Feel the light filling your heart space and expanding outward in all directions. Imagine white light radiating out from your heart and surrounding your body. Stay here as long as long as you can. When your mind wanders or anxious thoughts pop up, just let them move across your mind like clouds across the sky. Refocus your attention on your heart.

3. Re-scripting Your Anxious Thoughts into Anxiety-Soothing Affirmations: This sacred strategy builds trust in your ability to respond rather than react to any anxiety triggering thought or situation. It not only shifts your thoughts from negative to positive; it actually begins to change the neuropathways in your brain.

You’ve had limiting beliefs, anxious thoughts, and old stories playing in your head for years. Anxiety-soothing affirmations help release the negative energy, calm the nervous system, and elevate your vibration. Empowering affirmations bring your energy down from the chatter of the brain into the inner peace of your heart.

Close your eyes, drop into your heart center, and quiet the mind. By tuning into your heart, you come into a loving space of self-awareness. Observe what anxious thoughts come into your mind and the negative scripts they trigger. Mindfully allow your thoughts to just come and go without getting caught up in them.

Write down the predominant negative scripts in your journal. Next to each anxious script write an empowering affirmation. For example: If one of your negative scripts is: I never have enough money. Rewrite this script into an empowering affirmation such as: I am connected to the unlimited abundance of the universe.

Here are a few other affirmations:

  • I embrace my anxiety as information to spiritually guide me.
  • I trust that I can handle anything that comes my way.
  • I trust that I am the co-creator of my life, I am safe and trust my connection to my source.

Repeat these affirmations throughout the day as many times as you need to break the reaction of fear and anxiety.

I invite you to get in the daily habit of using these anxiety soothing practicesWhat matters most is that you take consistent action to shift your anxiety to spiritual opportunity. This will create healthy new habits that promote trust, calm, and inner peace.
