Creating Sacred Space

Creating Sacred Space by Shelley A. Kaehr, Ph.D. | #AspireMag

For over twenty years I’ve worked in the field of past life regression. One of my big goals is to help people access wisdom from the depths of their own souls. You have a unique soul plan and purpose for your life and with practice and determination you can receive guidance that will allow your life to unfold in a magical way. The two best ways to tap into your inner guru is through meditation or guided imagery journeys. To get the most from those practices, you’ll want to create your own personal sacred space.

When we meditate and go within or listen to guided imagery, a rich world unfolds filled with personal spiritual information and guidance that is customized for you. It’s as if you’ve created your own sacred space within the mind. Through repetition and practice and going through processes that allow you to build muscle memory and gain greater information and insight over time, you can discover incredible information about your soul that will provide tremendous gifts to you for the rest of your life. Inner work helps you get to know yourself and that is the key to any kind of healing.

To make the most out of guided imagery journeys, you’ll want to work in a special environment of your choosing that hopefully you can use for all of your future explorations. Using the same place each time helps your subconscious mind open up to the divine.

Here are a few things to consider:

Quiet Space – Find a place in your home or office where you won’t be disturbed. If you have more than one in mind, spend some time sitting in each and consider how you feel. Which spot makes you feel at ease? Where will you have the easiest time leaving the outer world behind for a bit of you-time?

Furnishings – If possible, pick out the chair or sofa you will find most comfortable. This doesn’t mean an expensive trip to the furniture store either. You can always look around your home and even try out sitting places you already have and move them around a bit to accommodate your needs.

Lighting  Even though you’ll have your eyes closed much of the time, lighting can be important. Different kinds of bulbs affect people differently due to the variations in vibrational frequencies that differ depending on the wattage and color. You may enjoy lights with a golden glow, or bluish tints may provide you with a feeling of energy and excitement. Pick what you like, again, taking a moment to think about how you feel within various lights and settings. For relaxation and meditation, you’ll probably want to select soft, pleasing lighting. Then again, if something more energizing feels better, listen to yourself and follow your own inner guidance. Himalayan salt lamps are fantastic tools for mediation spots. The healing vibrations of the salt emanates into the room when the light shines through the crystals. Remember your old dining room lighting that rarely ever gets used with the lights with dimmer switches on them? You can easily place dimmer switches into other places around your space and use the dimming effects to create calm and peaceful vibes, allowing you to receive greater peace and relaxation in your space. Dimmer lighting can also help you to  avoid feeling distracted by bright lights shining through your eyelids that might disrupt the inner visions you’re experiencing.

Décor – What other kinds of décor do you enjoy? Again, if possible, decorate your space the way you like and enjoy. If you’re sharing your home or office with others, that may not mean turning the space into your own private cave, but you can add a simple throw pillow or two or keep blankets, plants or other items you love nearby to support your wellbeing and joy.

Music – Some people respond well to music. The healing tones can assist the brainwaves in settling into the alpha or healing state and can facilitate deeper states of meditation or visions in journeys. Other people prefer silence. Again, do what feels better to you. If music is your preference, select artists that help you set the tone you want to create. Do you enjoy piano? Guitar? Tones and bells? Classical or jazz? Do you like sacred flutes, or would you prefer the faint sounds of angelic singing? Again, there’s no right or wrong. Preferences differ for everyone. Do what you love.

Smells – Your olfactory sense is one of your strongest. Smells send deep messages straight into your brain and can help you relax. What smells support you and make you feel nurtured and relaxed? While essential oils like Lavender are automatically associated with relaxing, that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what you should use. Experiment with different smells if you haven’t already, and in the end, I recommend you use something you truly love because the happier you are, the more open you’ll be to divine impulses.

Once you’ve created your special external sacred space, use it and repeat. The more you visit your space and go through the processes of traveling deep within your soul, the more unfolding of the spirit and soul will happen over time. If you try your space at first and feel it’s not quite working yet, try again and make needed adjustments until you feel the space is exactly what you need. Taking the time to nurture your soul in this way will pay big dividends over time for your overall peace and happiness. Above all, have fun and enjoy the inner journey into yourself!
