I’ve got some truth telling for you today and I believe it has the power to forever shift how you feel about improving your child’s health.
It also has the ability to get you out of overwhelm, FOR GOOD.
Especially if you’re someone who struggles with sticking to making changes in your child’s life, whether it’s getting regular REAL foods in their diet, well…regularly, actually remaining patient and calm when your child reacts intensely, or finding a healthy balance between downtime and activity in your child’s life…
There are 2 things you MUST HAVE in order to create new lasting habits to improve your child’s health and make it easy for you! But before we get to what those two things are we need to need to understand what is causing our child’s symptoms.
Health Improvement Starts Here
When you have a child that is challenged with anxiety, allergies, ADD, seizures or some other physical or emotional health challenge, it means there is some symptom that is making their life more difficult.
All symptoms, whether it is an allergic reaction, anxious or distracted thoughts or a seizure are a result of your child’s internal environment. The internal environment is the stuff inside their blood.
It’s the nutrients, enzymes, hormones, and fluids surrounding every single cell in their body. Each cell receives information from the internal environment and relies on that information in order to function.
So when a person experiences a symptom they don’t enjoy, it’s simply a signal that a shift in their internal environment needs to happen to make that symptom disappear.
What Impacts Our Internal Environment?
Once we know that we want to reduce or eliminate a symptom in our child’s life, we can simply make changes to the areas of their life that change their internal environment.
This is where your motherly expertise is so important! You are the parent which has been by your child’s side since the day they were born. You know more than any other person what their daily life is like.
This information is valuable because their internal environment is affected by the following:
- Nutrition
- Relationships
- Downtime
- Activity
- Beliefs
By making small changes in daily habits to improve these 5 areas of your child’s life you will forever improve their health.
What Most People Do
Here’s the thing. You may be thinking I’ve learned a new perspective, and think to yourself, I can start to make changes in my child’s nutrition, or downtime and see how it goes.
I understand this way of thinking because I used to be a “DIY’er” myself.
The truth is understanding what will be helpful, deciding what actions and actually doing things different on a daily basis takes an incredible amount of time and effort, especially if you’re not 100% clear about why the symptoms are there in the first place and what direct benefit your new actions will have.
Experts have calculated how much time it takes to create 1 new habit, and most say it takes at least 66 days.
So, if you are going to try to create 5 small habits, one for improving your child’s nutrition, relationships, downtime, activity and beliefs that will take a minimum of 330 days. And that is if you are doing it every day!
I’ve seen parents try to do this on their own, and while they may make some changes in the short term, unfortunately, it becomes too overwhelming to stick with the new habits and as a result doesn’t reduce their child’s symptom for good.
That’s disappointing to them and their children are still left with the same challenges. Even more draining, some people continue to search and try new ways of helping their child and start over and over.
Imagine how much time that takes!
2 Must Haves to Change Your Child’s Health with Ease
That is why it is essential to have these 2 things to change your child’s health for good and make it easier on you!
First, you need to find a role model. This is someone that has been in your shoes, experienced the same or a similar challenge with their child and turned things around.
Find a person that has gotten to a place you want for your child and your family.
Anytime a person goes through an experience they gain tremendous insight about what works and what doesn’t. It’s always easier to do things the second time through. Let alone, finding someone that has transformed their own life and helped many others to do it too.
Second, you want to surround yourself with others that are in a similar place as you. As humans we are wired to connect and it’s always supportive and encouraging when we can relate to other people.
By finding other people who understand your challenges, can celebrate little wins and provide a soft place to land in tough moments, you make it easier to stick to new habits.
It’s just like having a workout partner that saves your spot in boot camp class or a friend on the PTA board with you. Being with others that are in a similar situation makes everything easier and more fun.
Take advantage of a simple way to improve your child’s health and make it easier on you to do it by finding:
– A role model to learn from
– A support group of people that are in similar situations
These 2 things will allow you the chance to create new habits with grace, ease and optimism as you move in a new direction for improving your child’s health.
