Some of us have spent an unimaginable amount of time in our homes these past few years. Has your space embraced and supported you, or are you ready to run screaming from the chaos or discomfort? Hopefully, it is the first option! It has become ever more important to understand the connection between our mindset and emotions and our physical environment. Our homes, every object within as well as their placement reflect our inner landscape. And yet, without reflection and intention, we may not see simple changes that we can make to create a more supportive environment. Once we become so accustomed to our spaces, everything in it tends to blend into the background of the overall space where only our subconscious mind keeps track of the messages being delivered and reinforced in our spaces.
One area that women often ask about shifting in their home relates to creating, reflecting, and supporting abundance in their life. There are many ways that this can be addressed. The first question to address, however, is what does abundance mean to you. Abundance can refer to a large quantity of something, prosperity or a few other things dealing with the quantity of something. In what area of your life do you desire to experience abundance? Is it in your finances, number of clients, amount of free time or time spent with family, or something else? If look at our homes as a three-dimensional vision board of what we desire to experience in life, then we must become crystal clear on what we are placing on that vision board to be magnified throughout our lives.
Here are 5 steps to help you attract more prosperity into your life using Feng Shui:
STEP ONE: The first step in creating impactful shifts in your home is to set a clear intention. In setting your intention, reflect on what you desire to experience in your life, in this case as it relates to abundance. What do you hope abundance will bring? Will it give you a sense of freedom? Endless opportunities? Joyful time with family? Excitement about a project or your work? Deeply examine your purpose and motivation for wanting to experience abundance? What will your life look and feel like when you are abundant? Once you tap into the deep why of your intention, it will become easier to move forward with next steps. Setting an impactful intention also invites in the energy that you want to attract into your spaces and your life. You may want to create an affirmation, small altar, vision board or other reminders of things that will hold the energy of your intention as you move forward.
STEP TWO: Once your intention is set, it’s time to take an assessment of your home. You may do this in a number of ways. One option is to imagine you are going shopping in your own home. Sit with your intention and the emotions of what you desire to experience while you are abundant, then move through each room in your house reflecting on the furniture, art work, colors, and other objects in the space. As you move through the space, ask yourself if the space and each object there represent your intention, are bringing you closer to your intention, or if they are moving you away from your intention? Being still and tuning into how you feel in the space will reveal to you what needs to be removed, adjusted or highlighted in the spaces. It may also reveal areas of resistance, if you find yourself in a space that doesn’t feel good to you but you are reluctant to change.
Now, we have the two ends of our journey, the end point (intention) and beginning (assessment).
STEP THREE: The next part of the journey to experiencing more abundance is to remove objects that will not bring you towards your powerful intention. Clearing clutter is one of my favorite topics because it is such a magical way to make immediate and lasting changes in your spaces. In addition to removing objects that you do not use, begin to ask the question of whether the objects make you feel abundant or brings more abundance to your life. It’s not about how much the object may have cost, but about the value it brings to your life. When clearing objects out of our spaces, always do so with your intention in mind. Clear with the intention that moving this object out of your space is creating more space for abundance to move in. Thank the objects for serving their purpose in your life for the time they were part of your life, then send them on for the next part of their journey.
STEP FOUR: Now that the clutter has been removed it’s time to arrange what remains to highlight what you love and to create greater flow in your spaces. Below are just three recommendations of areas where you can make adjustments:
- Your front entrance: It is where new, fresh energy is invited into your home. Clear the clutter, and ensure that the door is clean, works properly and opens fully. Put out a welcome mat. Even if you do not use your front door to enter your home, open the door regularly with the intention of welcoming new energy into your life.
- Your stovetop: It is fire energy and represents abundance. Ensure that the burners are in working order and are kept clean. Rotate your cooking so all burners get some use. Some also amplify the fire energy by placing a mirror or other reflective backsplash that reflects the burners.
- Representations of Abundance: Citrine crystals, the color purple and a bowl of oranges also represent and amplify the energy of abundance, but it is certainly not a requirement to purchase more things after you have just cleared your clutter. What do you have that uplifts you, brings joy and makes you feel more abundant? These are the objects to highlight in your spaces.
STEP FIVE: My final recommendation for inviting more abundance into your home and life centers around the concept of gratitude. Gratitude is essential in this process of attracting more abundance. When we reflect upon what is wonderful about our present circumstances, we are inviting more wonderful things into our lives. When we examine our home and life using a strength-based approach, we are drawn to see what is already amazing in the present. This approach also draws us away from lamenting over what is lacking in our home design and layout. Seeing what is wonderful and enhancing those aspects of your home will invite in even greater abundance.
When we begin to see our homes as a reflection of our mindset and emotions, we can begin the journey of creating spaces that support us in moving towards living the life we truly desire. In addressing the area of attracting more abundance into your life, there are several things we can do to open the doors and invite abundance to be a partner in our lives. As with any new venture, it is important to set an impactful intention and locate ourselves in the present so we can chart our course. Making simple adjustments can create a ripple effect that moves throughout every aspect of our lives and leads us on our path.
