Anytime of the year is a perfect time to clear clutter because keeping the energy flowing in our homes and lives is essential all of the time. There are times, though, that people are drawn to clearing clutter. One of those is the transitions between seasons, particularly from winter to spring. As the seasons change, nature reminds us of the beauty of transformation. The trees release their leaves, flowers bloom anew, and the earth naturally resets in preparation for the next phase of life. Just as nature follows these cycles, we too can embrace the energy of renewal by clearing out what no longer serves us.
Every day, really every moment, of our lives, we are experiencing new thoughts, emotions and activities. As we experience new things, we change so naturally, the relationship to the things in our environment change. One way we can support ourselves in continuing to grow, expand, and evolve is to release what no longer serves us. Clutter is more than just physical mess—it holds energetic weight that can create stagnation in our lives. By intentionally clearing space, we invite new energy, fresh opportunities, and alignment with what we desire to experience in life. Clearing clutter can be a sacred act, allowing us to release the old and make space for the new blessings a changing season brings.
Below are three ways we can welcome a new season through clutter clearing.
1. Release with Intention and Gratitude:
One of the first steps in clearing clutter is to set a clear intention for what you desire to experience in the space. Before diving into clutter clearing, take a moment to set a clear, conscious intention. This practice will create a more focused clearing session and support in making choices that support the intention. As you set your intention, visualize what you want the space to look like and how you want to feel in that space. For example, in your kitchen, do you want to feel nourished and healthy? Do you want the kitchen to be a place of community gathering? Then as you go through the items in the space, ask if they align with your intention or does the item need to be released, or moved to a different space?
Set an intention that as you clear what no longer serves you, you are bringing in the energy of what you desire. Once you have your intention, create an affirmation that you can repeat while you are clearing the space. For example, As I clear clutter in my office, I welcome in abundance and creativity. Visualize your space being filled with light and new, fresh energy as you clear.
Approach this entire process with gratitude. Every object in your space has served a purpose, and whether you decide to keep, donate, recycle or discard it, acknowledging its role in your journey is powerful. Remember that energy can neither be created or destroyed, but it can be transformed. What you release with love and gratitude returns to you in new and greater forms. Releasing items is not about loss but about creating space for transformation, growth, and elevation. Releasing with intention helps ensure that we aren’t just moving things around but truly making space for something better to enter.
2. Cleanse the Energy: Once physical clutter is removed, it’s important to cleanse the energetic residue left behind. Objects and spaces absorb energy, and even after decluttering, stagnant energy may linger. Energetically clearing the space ensures that your environment is not only physically lighter but spiritually refreshed as well. Energetically clearing the space can be done using a variety of ways, including:
- Saging: Burn sage, palo santo, or incense to clear negative or stagnant energy. As you walk through your space, say a blessing or prayer, asking for renewal and protection.
- Sound: Use singing bowls, chimes, or even clapping to break up dense energy and invite a fresh vibrational shift.
- Fresh Air & Sunlight: Open your windows and allow natural elements to cleanse and refresh your home. The sun’s rays are naturally purifying and help dispel heavy energy.
- Essential Oils & Natural Scents: Diffuse citrus, lavender, or eucalyptus oils to uplift the energy of your space. Each scent carries its own spiritual properties—citrus for joy, lavender for peace, and eucalyptus for clarity.
- Water Blessing: Wipe down surfaces with water infused with a few drops of essential oils or herbs. You can also bless the water beforehand with an affirmation like, “May this space be cleansed and renewed.”
Our homes and personal spaces need regular energetic cleaning. Clearing our spaces in this way ensures that the energy within aligns with the fresh start, amplifying the energy of the changing seasons.
3. Create a Sacred Space for Renewal: As you clear away the old, consider how you can intentionally designate a space for spiritual renewal. The transition into a new season is a perfect time to realign with what nourishes your soul. There are many ways to create sacred space within your home. One way to create sacred space within your home is to set up a quiet space for meditation or reflection. Dedicate a peaceful spot in your home with a comfortable place to sit or lay down along with an object that inspires you, such as a crystal, meaningful book, or image. This may also be a place where you keep a special journal to reflect on what you are welcoming into your life this season. Writing down your intentions, prayers, or gratitude each day keeps your energy aligned with your desires.
Another way to create sacred space and reflect the energy of the changing seasons is to incorporate elements of nature into your home. Reflecting the elements of nature can be done through brining in plants, stones, sea shells, a small water fountain or something else. Notice how the angles of light and the colors change with the seasons. Match these changes in your home by changing when you open the blinds or curtains and by adding splashes of different colors in your home during different times of the year. You may want to add a wreath to the front door that reflects the current season.
Your sacred spaces can become physical reminders of the renewal you are embracing. Whether you use specific places for prayer, meditation, or simple quiet reflection, they will serve as a grounding place to reconnect with yourself and the intentions you’ve set.
Clutter clearing is more than an act of simply cleaning up – it is a spiritual process of release, renewal, and realignment. As the seasons shift, we too are invited to shed what no longer serves us and make space for fresh energy, opportunities, and transformation. By releasing with intention, cleansing the energy, and creating a sacred space, we honor both the physical and spiritual aspects of renewal. This process allows us to move forward feeling lighter, more aligned, and open to the flow of abundance that a new season brings. What are you ready to release? What fresh energy do you want to invite in? As you embrace this new season, may your space—and your spirit—be filled with clarity, joy, and renewal.
