Have you ever walked into a home or space and felt a palpable shift in your own energy?
Whether you’ve stepped into a space of joy, perhaps for a party, or a space of sadness, perhaps where someone had been ill, our spaces hold different energies that impact us as we, in turn, influence the spaces we enter. When we select a place to live, again, it is an energetic connection that brings us and the space together. Everything down to the objects, colors and arrangement of our homes creates an atmosphere and gives clues to our mindset and emotions at the time we designed the space.
Intentionally Creating the Energy of the Space
Sometimes, like with setting up for that party, we intentionally create a specific mood and energy for a space in advance. Other times, like when experiencing an illness, we change the space to support the person in the moment or as a response to the illness. In either circumstance, we are bringing alignment between ourselves and the spaces in which we live. Keeping in mind that as we evolve and have different life experiences, as our mindset and beliefs change, we can “outgrow” or become out of alignment with the energy of the space as we initially set it up. In addition, the more we are in a space, the less we notice the little details, as everything begins to become part of the normal environment for us.
Though we can be quite intentional when we move into a space; oftentimes, years can go by without an intentional reflection and adjustment of the spaces. When you think about your own home, how often do you update the space to reflect the current and future you that you desire to bring forth? When your dreams and goals change, do you change the space to reflect your new direction? Does your home even represent the current you, or is it an accumulation of memories of your past and where you’ve been? While we can certainly honor our past, updating your spaces to reflect the current and future you will help to propel you towards your dreams and goals.
Your Home as Three-Dimensional Vision Board
Our homes are a three-dimensional vision board for our lives. It and the objects within reflect back to us our dreams, goals, thoughts about ourselves, and thoughts about our relationship with the world. When we are focused on celebrating our present and imagining our future, we can create external spaces that match the energy that we desire to have in our lives. We can adjust our spaces to attract and support the energies that we want in our lives.
Here are three steps you can take to create a vision for the future and begin to align the energy of your home with that vision.
1.Create heartfelt intentions. The first step in creating alignment between ourselves and our space is to become clear about what we desire. Reflect on what’s great about your life as well as what things you may want to shift. In other words, take an inventory of your life. Understanding where you stand on the roadmap of your life’s journey will support you in seeing where you need to go next. What are your intentions moving forward? What kind of life do you desire to live? What kind of person do you want to be?
Tap into the emotions that accompany your vision. For example, if your desire is to increase your financial abundance, tap into the deeper reason for that desire and what emotions will be present for you. Would you like to increase your abundance so that you feel free, joyful, or something else? Identify the essence of your desire and create a heartfelt intention to express it. If you focus on the feelings that you want to experience, you also open the door to things you haven’t even imagined yet that also fit that energy vibration. So, if you focus on joy, you may bring more joy into your life in ways that you had not even dreamt of before.
2.Release those things that do not align with your vision. Once you create a vision of what you want your life to look and feel like, the next step is to release those things in your home that do not align with your vision. Remember, we are creating a three-dimensional vision board for your life to support the energy that you desire to bring into your life. Even when we do not consciously acknowledge things in our space, it registers in our subconscious. So, even when we hide unfinished projects in the closet or under the bed to get them out of sight, energetically we still know that it is there. Its presence creates stuck energy in our lives and creates patterns of thinking that can be unsupportive.
If your vision is to create a loving relationship, release things that may remind you of old relationships that were not right for you. Just because a past friend or lover gave you something doesn’t mean that you need to keep it forever. Someone else may want to enjoy that object in their life. The surprising thing is, there is always someone else who will love and use the stuff that is just laying around, creating blockages for you.
Oftentimes, when someone gives us a gift, we may feel guilty about not keeping it. The guilt, or any other less than positive emotion, associated with that object, sits in our energy whether we are aware of that or not. Just as the energy of broken, unfinished and other unwanted objects, becomes stagnant energy, weighing us down. If we don’t love it or use it, and if it does not bring us further on the path to creating the life we desire, it becomes a blockage on our path.
What representations of our past selves are supportive and what other representations are keeping us stuck? Honoring our past and our experiences can be supportive, depending on our mindset. If we develop a mindset that we must keep everything from our past because we don’t have much trust that our futures will be even better, then it’s time for a mindset shift and releasing and/or rearranging of some of those past remembrances. We must bring ourselves to a space of gratitude for the present so we can move forward with grace and ease into our future.
3.Now, create a space that will draw you into the future. Dive back into the feelings of your future self. See, feel, and imagine what your life will be like in 2, 5, 10 or even 20 years. What colors, images and arrangements will support that person? If you desire more joy in your life, what colors and images will make you feel joyful? What types of things do you want in your home? Are there current hobbies, relationships, or other opportunities to be creative that bring you joy? Make sure that you create spaces to support these joyful moments.
Whatever you desire to bring into your life – abundance, love, health, creativity or something else – start there and imagine what kind of spaces would support a person who lived a life of abundance, or a life filled with love, health, or creativity.
Now that you have a vision for your life and have removed the things in your space that will not move you toward that vision, it’s time to experiment and have fun with arranging the remaining items to create the space of your dreams.
