Have you discovered the real magic to be found in clutter clearing? Clutter clearing is a journey of layers. On the surface, it can look like throwing out or giving away things that you don’t use, that are broken, or that you just don’t like. On a deeper level, though, clutter clearing is shifting the energy in your space to create an environment that reflects, nourishes, and supports your desires. When we release items intentionally from our spaces, we are creating room for something new, literally, and energetically. We are removing what is stuck or clogging the flow into our lives.
Clearing clutter brings us out of the past and into the present as it pulls us toward the future we desire. The word clutter is derived from “to clot.” If we want our life to flow with grace and ease, and to manifest the life of our dreams, we must unclog the stuff that is blocking the flow of what we desire into our lives. The goal is to have a space that visually and energetically calls your deepest desires into your life.
To create space for what you desire in the coming year follow these simple steps:
1.Set a Clear Intention. When setting out on a clutter clearing journey, the most important first task is to focus on a clear intention. Clutter clearing is a balance, a shift or swap, in energy. Before removing random items, be clear on what new energy you want to replace those things with. What intentions do you have for the new year? It is not necessary to focus here on specific tasks or goals for the year but is more important to tap into the dreams of your soul. What do you desire to experience in this new year? Is it more joy, love, abundance, or something else? It is also essential to focus on what we do want more of during this first step (instead of what may not be working now). Once you are clear on what you are inviting in, the next steps flow with more grace and ease. You may want to create an affirmation to reinforce your intention and to remain clear and focused. For example, I clutter clear in order to experience more joy in the coming year.
2.Reflect on What Is In Your Home. After you have a clear intention, the next step is to evaluate or reflect on what is in your home. There are many ways that you can approach this step. One is to imagine you are attending an open house. With this intention in mind, take a tour of your own home, noting how the home may express your intention already or if there are items in the home that do not seem to flow with your intention.
During this “tour” of your home, you may also come across objects that seem to lower your energy or bring up feelings of stuck-ness. Make note of these objects as well. We often become blind to what is in our own homes as the images and objects fade into our everyday environment. Take this time to really see what surrounds you in your space, if it brings you joy and if it reflects the energy of your intention. In other words, are you surrounding yourself with an environment that holds the energy of what you desire to bring into your life?
3.Release What Doesn’t Align. Now that you have your intention set and have reflected upon what areas in your home do not represent this intention, it’s time to begin releasing. You may be clear on where you will choose to begin in your home. If so, then begin there. If you are unsure about where to begin, I always recommend starting with the front entrance of the home, followed by the main bedroom and bathroom, then moving to other areas of the home.
Here are some clutter clearing strategies for each of those rooms:
Front Door: In feng shui, the front entrance of your home is quite important. It is the space where new energy, new opportunities, is drawn to your home. If that space is cluttered, you are sending a message to the Universe that you already have more than what you need and are not ready to receive anything else.
Look at the front door from the outside. Is it welcoming? Remove any objects that block access to the door from outside. Once you open the front door, what do you see? Make the first view a beautiful one! You are setting the stage for manifesting your intentions. Ensure that the door opens smoothly and that there is no clutter behind the door.
Bedroom: After the front entrance is clear of clutter, the main bedroom is the next recommended space to clear. The bedroom is our most intimate space, representing our inner self. This space can be created to reflect our deepest desires and inner thoughts. When we desire a change, this is a great place to reflect upon.
First, remove anything that does not belong in this space. Define it as a restful, rejuvenating, sacred space, not as a catch all for all the things we clean out of the guest-facing spaces when company comes over. Think of your future self, experiencing the life that you desire. What kind of clothes, jewelry or accessories would she wear? Is that in alignment with what’s in your closet right now? Do the clothes in your closet fit the you of today? Holding on to things that don’t fit or that you will not wear or do not represent you, keep your energy tethered to the past. Focus on what you desire to experience in the present and what you want to bring forward in the future.
Bathroom: After the areas of your front entrance and main bedroom are clear of clutter, a next best place to clear is your main bathroom. When you think bathroom, think spa, self-care, release and renewal. Does your bathroom space reflect the love, joy, abundance, radiance or something else that you desire to experience in your life? Does your bathroom contain expired makeup, creams, medicine or other items? Are your towels and the other items you use in the space in good working order? When you are in your space, do you feel abundant? Having an abundant looking space does not require that we spend a great deal of money on a space, only that each item is intentionally placed, in good working order and brings us joy to see and use in the space.
Clutter clearing with intention is the perfect journey to take near the beginning of the year as well as any time you are ready for a new project, new season in life, or new beginning.
