Do you know YOUR elemental superpower and why it’s such important knowledge for you to have?
There are 3 different ways I know of to glean this information. I will touch briefly on the first two as references for you and then we will get to my favorite and preferred way that will be uniquely yours and help you feel deeply resourced anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
When working with the elements, they will make themselves known to you in a way that allows you to become more familiar with each of their essences and what they feel like to you and what memories they evoke.
Here’s an overview of each group and what they bring:
FIRE: THE ACTION REALM: The element of Fire is what it takes for you to truly thrive in this human world.
EARTH: THE PHYSICAL REALM: The key to making your dreams come true. The element of Earth helps you build a bridge that links your imagination to physical manifestation.
AIR: THE MENTAL REALM: The element of Air can take you through a deep exploration of aligning your mind with reality and the fine art of truly paying attention.
WATER: THE EMOTIONAL REALM: Water gives us the key to returning to joy and wholeness no matter what life throws at us.
The first way to find your elemental superpowers is through your birth chart. The moment you were born, each planet was in an Astrological sign. Depending on which sign your major planets were in will determine how much or how little of each element exists in your chart.
The second way to find your elemental superpowers is to look at the modality of the stronger placed planets in your birth chart. For instance, someone may not have any Air in their birth chart whatsoever but perhaps they have Virgo and Capricorn in strong placements. Those two archetypes are Earth signs; however, they are left brained—ergo Air .
But I am going to teach you a third way. A powerful way to work with the elements by using your intuition and tuning in to what feels the most powerful in your body.
One way to look at what elements you have connections with is, quite simply, the ones that feel strongest for you. If you so choose, they can become part of your power and part of what you bring to your daily life if desired.
Let us first focus on the element of fire. If we just talk about fire with no inflection or intention, and say the word fire, or sing the word fire, we can begin to ask ourselves, am I in attunement with this? And if I am in alignment, is it a natural alignment that I experience? If so, when you say or sing the word, allow yourself to really see and associate with your mental images and memories/experiences of fire.
Now, do the same for each of these elements: water, weather, air or wind, and earth. Note the one(s) with which you had the deepest resonance and how that resonance made itself known to you – was it through a memory, image, or an experience?
Let’s move through each of them again now, and notice, does anything begin to gather or collect? Perhaps something new allows itself to be felt or known by you and you can sense or feel the change occur for you. When you sing fire, think about the hearth fire, think of the fire that keeps you protected in the night. Think of the fire of the sun or the fire sparked by lightning.
Now, do the same for each of these elements again: water, weather, air or wind, and earth. I encourage you to jot down specifically what gathers, collects, or makes its presence known to you with each of them and what feelings they evoke.
If an element doesn’t speak to you, no worries. It just means it’s not one of your elemental superpowers, but it doesn’t mean it’s not available to you.
Now, we are going to break this down even a little more.
For instance, earth power is very different from land power. We can think of land power as the land that has been worked by human beings, that’s part of people’s farms or land they steward. And it’s very different than earth. For people who are farmers or who live in places where the land has been a powerful part of their life for generations, then the land power would be very strong for them.
If our property is delineated by hedges, walls, or fences, we might want to think that what’s within those boundaries is our land, and all the different creatures, the nature spirits, the plant spirits, etc. We then can reach with great intention to those land spirits that are there and that can become part of what empowers us. We can begin to pull on everything that’s around us that we’re really connected with and make something happen, whether we want to or not. Once you develop a connection to the land and include all its allies, it then means that you can call on that specific plot of land and all the different creatures you have referenced or connected to as part of the land know they are included in that invocation.
What are some of the other kinds of powers you can think of when we think of the elements? I’ll share some here to help inspire you.
Wind Power: Is it a soft breeze, a gust of wind, or is it a windstorm?
Weather Power: Is it lightning power? Or maybe it is storm power which can either be calling up a storm or calling on the power of the storm to support you.
Fire Power: Is it an “ordinary” fire? Perhaps it is of the sun, perhaps it is of lightning?
Water Power: Is your water element more like a lake, an ocean, or a river? Maybe it is more like a brook or the sea?
Earth Power: Do you see yourself at the top of a mountain or in a cave? Perhaps it’s the land power that speaks to you. Maybe you have fond memories of being with the trees and drawing on their strength.
After you have sensed the basic elements that are superpowers for you, then begin drilling down another level. What I also want you to think about in terms of your own elemental superpower is what is your specific superpower or superpowers, not just in a general sense.
Wind as we know isn’t just a singular entity, but many different types of beings. Is it the North wind, South wind, or Grandfather winds that are the particular allies? If it’s a soft breeze, is it a morning or evening breeze?
For some of the other elements, maybe it’s like babbling brook, roaring river, supporting storm, or medicine mountain. The more specific you can be the more feeling it will evoke and the more powerful it will be for you.
Think about these particular and very specific superpowers for yourself. See the full image for yourself and identify what is going on there, what is resourcing you. For example, someone might find that their elemental superpower is Medicine Mountain where they stand looking down over a Swirling Sea and the Whispering Winds are speaking to them.
What is the next level of these elemental powers for you?
Once you have your elemental superpower(s) clarified, you will then want to also note: what’s like kryptonite to you? What totally zaps you, or takes your power away? Because that’s an awareness you also want to pay attention to. If you know what your kryptonite is in any given situation, you will have an edge knowing how to counter it.
You can always call on this connection to your personal elemental superpower or superpowers that are uniquely yours for them to richly resource you, so you then don’t destabilize.
Our intention with this practice is to call on the power of the elements to lend their strength to us. We in turn lend our strength to the elemental connection by bringing in the memories, the feelings, and associations that we have. That joining together is a reinforcement for both of us, a reinforcement for the element, and a reinforcement for ourselves.
*This is a powerful process that can be used in meditation or journeywork.
