Birthing a business is a heroic journey. Â
Be it a small solo business or a larger corporate venture, birthing a business is both a personal development and spiritual journey on steroids. As more people are venturing into entrepreneurship for personal and financial reasons, we are seeing how starting a business is the quintessential post-modern heroic journey. This is especially true if it is a purpose-driven, heart-centered, or spirit-led business. In other words, businesses that go beyond just the bottom line of making money, but also carry the desire for meaning and creative, soulful expression. Â
The desire to create a business that meets at the intersection of purpose and livelihood adds a different dimension to this heroic journey because it also becomes a personal and spiritual development endeavor. This also brings forth questions around how to market, brand and relate to money in a way that looks to restructure our capitalist way of doing business. Even if when starting one isn’t aiming at transforming our capitalist system, one is at lease circulating the issue. Â
Whatever business one decides to birth, one element that will be brought into question is how does one address a burning question of our zeitgeist, which is the knowledge that we can’t continue to do business as usual, if we are to survive as a species. Â
There’s no denying the collective awakening, albeit at different levels of consciousness, around the need to bring into our livelihood and its various permutation a good dose of spirit. Money shall not continue to be divorced from meaning, purpose, and spirit — neither will business. Â
What are archetypes and why do they matter for our business? Â
C.G. Jung considered archetypes to be forms or images of a collective nature, spreading across geography and cultures. Archetypes show up in myth, tales, but also in our individual lives. The origin of our understanding of archetypes started with the Greek philosopher Plato. Plato spoke of ‘elemental forms’ or ‘ideal forms,’ and he saw them as IDEA structures that formed a template for our material reality. Before a tree is a ‘tree,’ it exists in its ideal form as a tree. So the closer a physical tree is to its ‘ideal form,’ the stronger is its frequency and resonance. Â
When we are looking to do business, not in the usual way that has been done in the last couple of centuries as the advent of the Industrial Revolution has taught us, we have to look at different ways to craft and market our business, for we know that traditional marketing and advertising needs a revolution. It needs to shift its focus from a scarcity mentality and the rules of demand, to make way for self-expression of our inherent gifts, a sense of purpose and connection to meaning. Â
This is where the ancient language of astrology comes in. Â
Astrology is a symbolic and archetypal language that has accompanied humanity’s evolution for eons. It is profoundly multi-layered and complex, but it allows one an almost infinite amount of material to work with when birthing a business that is archetypally aligned. For this very reason, astrology’s symbolic language is a potent business ally. Astrology serves as our roadmap into the archetypal landscape. Â
Our starting point in this archetypal journey is through our SUN SIGN. In practical terms, astrology helps us navigate the business world, with its branding and marketing elements, much like the ancients navigated the oceans guided by the stars. Â
The importance of the Sun in astrology and business. Â
Our Sun and the sign it is in embodies our essential character. It symbolizes our path, goal and what is fundamental for our lives. It is how we express our creative yang aspect in the world. The Sun reflects how our consciousness expresses itself, speaking to our physical and spiritual vitality. Ultimately, the Sun reveals our path of self- realization, for its goal, is to become more fully what one inherently is. Wherever the Sun is in our birth chart, it is where our heart shines, where we sing our Song. Â
When we birth a business, we are giving expression to our Sun. By understanding in more depth the archetypal expression of our Sun Sign, we are gaining valuable insight into what are the gifts we have for the world, but also how our shadow is most likely to challenge us further into our heroic journey. The SUN is the true north of our business. The Sun illuminates our WHY for birthing a business, and it reveals the way to how we can best express this in the world. Â
What do the other planets have to say? Â
While the Sun is your CEO, it does have its court. Â
The other planetary archetypes have their gifts to share and ways to help us on our business journey. The birth chart itself, be that your own or your business’ natal chart (yes, you can have a chart for your business, as it is an entity, both legally and symbolically), illuminates even further how you can understand the inherent archetypes of your life and business, and how they intersect. Â
The Moon speaks to the needs of our clients, serving as our Client Relations. Understanding the Moon and its phases, also helps us gain a better understanding of our creative ebb and flow, and how we can best align with our inherent rhythm. The Moon speaks to our day-to-day processes, and understanding this rhythm, allows us to be on the driver’s seat of our business. Â
There’s a lot more to touch on about the Moon and the other planets. But to get you started, here are the key elements about the other planets and how they help you and your business. Â
Mercury is our Public Relations connector. It sheds light on our communication style and how we connect with our market. Venus is our Business Attractor. She helps us define our products and services, and how we can best attract money to our business. Mars is our Business Drive. It reveals how we deal with risk and take action. Jupiter is our Outreach Master, pointing us towards opportunities that would align with our business. Saturn is our Structural Coordinator, speaking to our business’ foundations and systems. It teaches us about how we need to approach discipline, and quality in our business. Â
This is just a taste of how the other planets can help you navigate the journey of crafting an aligned, purpose-driven business. My invitation to you now is to start with your Sun Sign and see how it’s showing up in your business. Â
In other words: Where is your Sun in your business? Â
