We each have the innate ability to co-create a life that resonates with our true being. We begin by first recognizing and releasing anything that blocks this ability to manifest the reality we most desire. Then, trusting our connection to a divine energy source, we channel this flow of creative energy to help us make the inspired choices most aligned with our soul’s journey.
Like an inspired artist facing a blank canvas, we can use intention to make our dreams a reality. Intention functions like a cosmic Roto-Rooter, transforming situations or relationships by drawing toward us opportunities that are aligned our soul’s path. Intention, when supported by our connection to a divine energy source, sets up the people, places, and opportunities that shape our future realities. It is then up to us to select from the multitude of possibilities those that align with our soul’s path.
No matter what our circumstances, we have the inherent ability to transcend them and shift our reality by using intentions to redirect the flow of our energy. When we react negatively to someone or something, we generate more negativity, while our positive responses produce more positive outcomes. When we become angry, judgmental, or resentful toward people, we can pause, breathe deeply, open our hearts with compassion, and choose instead to bless people or wish them a great day. In this way, we disengage from negativity and channel the energy saved toward positive choices. Author Gary Zukav, in his book The Seat of the Soul, speaks to this, “Every experience and every change in your experience reflects intention.”
You begin using intention for positive change by trusting in your heart that this is not just a possibility but a probability. In directing your energy positively and consciously declaring your intentions, you open yourself to the energy of co-creation. Like dropping a pebble into a pond, your intention, in co-creation with your divine energy source, sets off an energetic vibration that radiates outward from your heart center and shifts everything in your path, co-creating the choices you will bring in for your future.
Next, you need to watch for opportunities that align with your intention and make discerning choices. Once you arrive at a decision, the universe conspires with you to bring it about. For example, if you declare the intention that you want a healthy and loving relationship with a beloved partner, then as opportunities arise you can make choices that support having such a person show up in your life. These choices may be challenging, perhaps requiring you to let go of some of your already established relationships, change where you live or work, use an online dating site, or alter your lifestyle. Nevertheless, you will have the courage and strength to make such changes by trusting in your connection with your divine source.
Trusting our connection to our divine source ignites our intention, which, in turn, allows us to see more possibilities and make more discerning choices that will benefit us in the future. When we trust ourselves and our divine source for co-creating our life, we act as copilots with this source in manifesting our intentions while letting go of expectations, outcomes, or preconceived plans.
Using the power of intention is not about setting a specific goal and focusing so much on it that you lose sight of other possibilities. On the contrary, it’s about setting a goal, being open to the many choices that present themselves in reaching that goal, then selecting the ones most likely to bring about what you truly want.
Just as a plane is guided onto the runway, into the air, and to its destination by airline personnel and air traffic controllers, you, as copilot, can guide your intention into reality by co-navigating with your source. Making your flight plan a reality, however, requires being out in front of your intention, which means thinking and acting as if your intention has already manifested. Your spirit can then guide the choices you make to manifest your intention.
In addition, because any thought or spoken word functions as an intention, it is crucial to keep your thoughts and words positive. The phrase “Be careful what you wish for” applies here. If you catch yourself thinking or speak negatively, shift your ideas, words, or tone to be more positive.
It is important that your intentions reflect what you want rather than what you don’t want, because any intention has the power to manifest. For instance, if you complain to a coworker that you hate your job and wish you didn’t have to be there, you are setting a negative intention. You may get your wish and end up being fired. For better results you could express your intention positively by saying, for example, “I want to use my talents and abilities to create a new career” or “I desire a job in which I can express myself more fully.” Having set a positive intention, you can manifest a new job by being aware of possibilities that will help you find it, such as talking to someone who tells you about another position, seeing a job advertised in the paper or on the Internet, or running into a friend who wants to start a business with you.
Trusting the manifestation of our intentions transforms our reality and allows us to let go of trying to control our destiny. The Serenity Prayer underscores this dynamic by stressing the advantage of accepting the things we cannot change (such as other people), having the courage to change the things we can (such as ourselves), and having the wisdom to know the difference.
We have many more possibilities in life than we could possibly envision. In co-creating with our divine source, we can consciously choose what we want in life. And with such courage and confidence, we can trust in our ability to make our dreams come true.
5 practices to assist you in manifesting your intentions:
- Select a word or phrase that represents a positive intention for the day, month, or year. Write your intentions on Post-it Notes or in your journal, and place them where you will notice them. Then each time you see your intention, open your heart, and affirm it.
- Close your eyes and imagine how your manifested intention would look and feel in your life. As you go about your day, think and act as is your intention has already manifested. Fully open to the spiritual information that comes through your heart guiding the choices that will bring your intentions into reality
- Hold yourself accountable for every choice you make, and proactively make new choices to that align with your spirit speaking through your heart. Assess the inspiration motivating your choices by asking yourself: What part of me is motivating this choice? What’s the best use of my time and energy right now? What choice feels right for me at this particular time? What supports my well-being and the greater good? or, In what direction do I feel drawn?
- A simple technique for taking inspired action is to keep following the path you are on as long as things are moving smoothly. When things aren’t going so well, you can stop, assess the situation, listen to our hearts, and choose a different path. When doors open easily, we know we are being guided by spirit―but when we keep banging our head against the same closed door, we must pause and go to where the doors open without a struggle.
- Evaluate your relationships to see who qualifies to be on your energetic support team. Also invite onto your team trusted others who interact with you in an unconditionally loving way. The primary job of this team is to energetically support you, your intentions and your fullest potential.
Making our dreams a reality is a divine gift as well as our personal responsibility. All it takes to spark this co-creation is one pearl of light, the seed of possibility. With that we can become a conduit for channeling energy to manifest our dreams from an array of infinite possibilities.
