The minute I heard the phrase “spiritual awakening,” I coveted one. Even though I was clueless about what a spiritual awakening is, that illusive experience became almost an obsession.
Didn’t take long to realize that spiritual awakenings are something that words can’t describe. And all the books I read had different “methods” claiming to prompt them.
So, I affirmed; I prayed; I begged the Universe, hoping that someone or something was listening. I started to understand that spiritual awakenings are complex, life-changing experiences, unique for each person. And, that many spend lifetimes searching for one. Often to no avail.
I gave up reading descriptions, researching and begging, deciding to trust the process.
In the beginning of my spiritual quest, I had tasted some of the common spiritual awakening signs. Like a full-on out-of-body experience, a feeling of connectedness with all life, discovering my True Purpose. My concern with material possessions waned, and I was living in pretty much consistent peace and joy from within.
The thing was, those states refused to permanently stick. I thought I was doing something incorrectly or had missed the memo.
Finally, after years of inner work and teaching others, I accepted that my awakening was happening in subtle ways. No drum rolls for this devoted seeker. It was just taking its sweet time like most everything in my life seems to.
Here’s What I Learned
The way to spur awakening is to be open to it. Make sure to not have expectations as to how it will look or feel, or when it will happen. There may be no drama at all. In fact, you may not even realize it happened.
I’ve also learned that there are things you can strive for that unlock the door to awakening. That door may open a small crack at a time, but eventually it opens. Especially when you challenge yourself to discover your true self by letting go of pretenses, false beliefs, impure motives and suppressed guilt.
Doing that gives your spirit a kick in the butt and shows that you are committed and deserve to awaken.
Spiritual awakening doesn’t always start as a pleasant experience. For many it’s triggered by traumatic occurrences. In fact, near-death experiences are some of the biggest catalysts for spiritual enlightenment.
Whatever it takes.
From what I’ve seen while working with thousands, there are things that may happen from spiritual awakenings. Just so you know.
Things such as…
Your Belief System Changes.
You start admitting that what you thought was true isn’t. Things you’ve learned and lived by for years begin to change. You think outside of your comfort zone or box. What’s more, you let go of lessons that haven’t served you. You start seeing the world with new eyes.
You Want to Discover More, Deeper Self.
There’s a new sense of curiosity in you. You want to become the best version of yourself and delve deeper into self-discovery, wellness, and personal development. You’re more open to things you wouldn’t have tried in the past.
You’re Experiencing Deep, Core Emotions.
The road to spiritual awakening is not always smooth sailing; it could be riddled with inner turmoil. Because you are questioning your belief systems, your past choices, your current relationships, and even your career, you can’t help but feel sadness, guilt, and confusing emotions.
This is often a difficult process of letting go, moving on, and having a new future outlook. Embrace it; feel every emotion – even the negative ones. This “release” is a necessary, healthy, completion that will allow you to achieve a lighter, cleansed sense of self. Take action to clean up any areas of guilt that show up.
You Become More Aware of Your Triggered Negativity.
You feel annoyed by things you do that you never noticed or judged before. You become more aware of the negative implications of your lifestyle and choices. You find yourself wanting to make personal changes and they may feel daunting. You are in the process of purifying.
Your Goals and Desires Change.
Your goals and desires are changing. You become less interested in accumulating material things and are letting go of possessions. You want to live a simpler, more meaningful life. You realize that true happiness doesn’t depend on how many things you own but how you own yourself.
You Want True Joy and Authentic Love.
Your goals and desires are changing. You become less interested in accumulating material things and you are letting go of possessions. You want to live a simpler, more meaningful life. You realize that true happiness doesn’t depend on how many things you own but how you own yourself.
Love Pours from Within.
Because of deep inner programming, most people struggle with needing validation and love from external places. Healthy and meaningful relationships stem from loving yourself fully. Spiritual awakening means you experience that you are enough for yourself. You don’t seek love, because you know you are love. Then, love is magnetized to you effortlessly.
There’s More Synchronicity.
Because you are starting to witness and accept that everything happens for a reason, you trust the process of life as it unfolds. You start letting go of your desire to control what’s happening around you and you feel supported in life. Meaningful coincidences become the norm.
Compassion Rules.
You become less self-absorbed and more attuned to others. Spiritual awakening allows you to be more connected to everything and everyone, thus feeling compassion and true caring. For others as well as yourself.
Aliveness, Appreciation, and Presence.
Like waking up in the morning, you feel more present, energized, and experience life with more realness. What you want out of life is more meaningful, coming from knowing the important contribution you chose to be here to make. Fear of failure and of death are no longer in charge.
You Jump In.
You know that you can do more, and you desire to step up in some way, take action, make a bigger difference. Your deep sense of purpose has you wanting to make a real change in the world, helping it transform from fear to love.
Your Life Is About to Shift.
Once you start this awakening journey, things change in unimaginable, unexpected ways. Your spirit has kicked you in the butt, and once that occurs nothing will ever be the same. Nor would you want it to me.
Take it from one who’s been there: Your spirit won’t let up. It wants you to know the incredible feeling of being 100% alive, capable, confident, healed, and fearlessly attracting all you desire and deserve.
You may not be in constant bliss, but you will absolutely know that the Universe is working through and for you.
