We all have the innate power to self-heal. Within the journey of self-healing is the ability to bring it into ourselves to work with, examine and know when we need assistance on the healing journey.
We also have 12 energy centers, also known as the Chakras, to work with on the self-healing path. The main seven are related to the to the physical body: ROOT, SACRAL, SOLAR PLEXUS, HEART, THROAT, THIRD EYE and CROWN. These energy centers are within and around the width of the body. Energy is moving every day, every minute within us and around us. When we understand our individual energy centers, we can work with them to self-heal and balance.
Let’s begin with the Root Energy Center (or Chakra) which is located at the base of your spine. It represents balance around survival, safety, courage, financial abundance, easy manifestation, grounding, and physical wellbeing. It is one of our connections to the Earth.
The ROOT is represented by the color red. Red represents a healthy exchange of energy with others, our vitality, survival, and passion. It can also increase your appetite. The Root is connected to the adrenal glands and one of the roles of these glands is how they affects our ability to deal with stress.
When the Root Energy Center is out of balance you may experience any of the following symptoms:
- Chronic “fight or flight” or fatigue
- Foot, ankle, knee, hip issues
- Fears
- Financial challenges
- Blocked or held back by beliefs tied to family loyalty
- Trust issues in your relationships
- Not feeling safe in such things as your job or relationships
- Feeling as if you can’t get ahead in life
- Difficulty focusing on where you are in the moment
- More accident prone
- Tension in the hips and lower spine, especially the tailbone
- Procrastination
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Bladder infections
- Kidney stones
- Hemorrhoids
- Incontinence
- Blood issues
When diving deeper into the ROOT, ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you enjoy what you created in your life or where you are?
- Are you trying to “escape”?
- Do you feel agitated?
- What do you remember about your childhood?
- Do you live in fear?
To start balancing the ROOT look at the wisdom within this energy center and see where you may be out of balance. Do you feel your feet? Do you feel your feet connected to the ground? If not, let’s explore four ways to re-balance the ROOT.
1.Start incorporating grounding foods into your diet daily. I work with the frequency of foods and believe in high-vibration eating to balance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energies. Eating organic, non-GMO, reliably sourced foods work best with the human body. Some great grounding food choices for the ROOT (Deanna Minich,2018) are:
- Protein: Grass-fed/finished meats, organic, pasture-raised chicken, wild caught fish, organic nuts, seeds and organic beans and legumes
- Root veggies: Carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, potatoes, radishes, onions, garlic, beets, burdock, celery root, daikon, ginger root, horseradish, leek, shallots, taro, turnip, wasabi, yam, yucca
- Red vegetables & fruits: cherries, red apples (Fuji, Pink Lady, Red Delicious), red bell peppers, beets, radishes, blood orange, cranberries, red cabbage, nectarines, pink grapefruit, red chard, red jalapeno pepper, pomegranate, red raspberries, red onion, red potatoes, red currants, tomatoes, red pears, red plums, strawberries and watermelon
- Drink dandelion root tea
2.Use an app such as Insight Timer, Calm or YouTube and find meditation music that includes 432hz. This sound frequency is associated with the color red and can help balance the ROOT energy center. It releases stress (going back to supporting the adrenal glands) and tension from the body. This frequency also unites the body and consciousness with nature and can assist in the release of negative energy blocks. The Solfeggio Frequency, which is part of the ancient 6-tone scale used in sacred, spiritual music for the ROOT is 396hz, which can free you from guilt and fear. (N/A, 2029.
3.Essential Oils: Apply any of the following grounding essential to the bottoms of your feet and base of your spine.
- Patchouli
- Frankincense
- Myrrh
- Cedarwood
- Sandalwood
4.Daily Grounding Exercise to connect with the Earth and bring you into the present moment:
- Go outside minus your shoes or socks
- Find a grassy spot
- Feel the ground under your feet
- Close your eyes
- Look up at the sun
- Find your feet again
- Breathe in through the feet up to the heart and out slowly from the heart down to the feet
- Do this for 5 minutes
Going low and slow will make implementing these steps doable. Start with the one that is calling to you now. Then slowly build and incorporate over the next several months. Notice what shifts for you.
Taking the time to connect and balance your ROOT energy center can be the first steps to re-ignite your vitality, connect with your community, create a deeper understanding of who you truly are and start to balance your adrenal glands, lower body and the organ systems connected to the ROOT. You may feel more grounded, present, focused, happy, peaceful and enjoy the moments in your life. Good energy starts in the feet and setting the intention to balance the ROOT energy center is a great first step on your path of self-healing.
