The material world continually broadcasts the illusion of power. We are socialized to believe that power lies in such things as physical force, money and positions of influence. Many of our beliefs about power are influenced by cultural conditioning and peer pressure. Our ability to create the life we desire, how much money we have and the influence we can exert over others is often linked to our sense of power. For some, physical attractiveness and the ability to get what we want can feel powerful.
Achieving our goals and having success in areas that are important to us may lend us the temporary feeling of power. While this might provide us with a sense of pride and accomplishment, we may still go about our day feeling powerless and compromising ourselves in a variety of ways. We may stay in relationships, occupations and abusive situations because we believe it offers us security and we fear we lack the power to create change. Over committing to activities, responsibilities and others to garner attention and control, may leave us a hollow sense of power and authority. When our personal power is concerned with external goals and values that are not aligned with our spirit, we eventually become exhausted and soul sick.
For many it may seem unrealistic and silly to trust that there is a higher form of spiritual power that can provide for our everyday physical and material needs and highest good. We may believe that there is a separation between spirituality and the “real” world. Spiritual practices can help us to reduce stress and anxiety and provide us with a peaceful retreat from of our everyday lives. However, we often believe that spiritual power is no match for the demands and struggles of the material world. For some, just contemplating the idea of a spiritual solution to a pressing problem can feel irresponsible and hopeless.
We will never know the benefits that our true power offers until we let go of control and listen to the inner divine presence. Initially, aligning and getting in touch with our true power may can be challenging. Listening within and stepping out of the paradigm of allowing outer influences to be our source of power takes courage. Others may disagree and not be happy with our choices. We may find we no longer have as much in common with friends, co-workers and family. It might feel as if we are stepping off of a cliff, when we act on the urging of the inner still, small voice. Yet, every small act of taking back our inner power guides us to our good
When we align with spiritual consciousness, we discover that there is no greater power. Worldly and material things are here today and gone tomorrow. True power cannot be taken or given away, lost or diminished. We can lose everything, and the force of love will rebuild and recreate it. It is through listening to the inner whispers that we are guided, and our most potent potential is revealed. Power is the ability to love ourselves enough to act on our truth despite what others and the outer world dangles in front of us.
Many of us need to exhaust ourselves, face mounting frustration or experience loss before we are willing to consider that the happiness that the world promises is an illusion. Listening within and acting on what feels right for our heart and soul is enlightening and offers us renewal. While it can feel as if there are no guarantees that we will succeed or even be okay, it is often in the darkest moments when we trust the light within that we activate our true power.
Spiritual power is the never ceasing divine creative activity that elevates everything to its highest good and expression. When we are aligned with the high vibrations of our spirit we are in our power and our good flows effortlessly into our day to day lives. Listen within and allow the divine to enter. It is through our heart that the power of divine wisdom and unceasing, abundance flows into our being and into every aspect of our lives.
Empowered Choices
Here are a few simple practices to help you to align with the divine source of your highest good.
SAY NO. Say “no” when you feel obligated to agree to something that doesn’t feel right. Walk away from opportunities and activities that you know in your heart are not right for you. Leave a soul deadening job and have the courage to pursue the direction of your heart in a more purposeful career. End an abusive relationship instead of trying to convince yourself that your partner will change or that you don’t deserve to be treated better.
PAUSE. Before you make a decision or choice, pause, let go, and release your expectations and the belief that it is up to you alone to create your good. Feel, listen within and be patient. Trust where you feel led. When something is right for us, we feel relaxed, inspired, positive and at ease. Our heart opens and we feel safe. Even if we are nervous about taking a positive step or a different choice, the underlying feeling in our body that this is the best choice will be present. Feelings of stress, fear, anxiety, body tension and stomachaches or headaches are indications that something isn’t in our highest good.
TRUST. Trust what you experience and your inner guidance. Even when you don’t have any outer verification, act on what brings you a sense of ease and opens your heart. This is when you are connected to your true source of power.
