For most of us, we don’t like things that may disrupt our comfy life, risk failure or scare us. We become complacent and accept things as they are, lulled into thinking we don’t have any other choice but to accept them. We treat change and challenges in the negative form such as “I’m just not lucky” or “these things always happen to me”. Before we get out of the gate, we are headed in the downward spiral of fear and anxiety!
Often, when confronted with change, you tend to dig your feet in and resist. Even when you initiate the change, fear and uncertainty still exist. It causes stress and anxiety, affecting you mentally and physically.
Today, I am challenging you to consider change as a way to grow through your fear rather than trudge through it. Think back to the last time you were asked to make a change that impacted either your personal life or career. When all was said and done, you most likely looked at the situation in a new perspective and acknowledged what you learned through the challenges and successes you encountered. Even when you were scared, you did things that you needed to do simply because you had to. And you learned and you expanded your comfort zone, sometimes without realizing it.
Now consider approaching the new challenge you’re facing with the same perspective. Approach the change with growth and opportunity immediately. Create an atmosphere of excitement and possibility!
Here are five questions to consider to create an atmosphere of growth and excitement:
- What can you learn from the challenge ahead? Identify the top three things you would like to learn or grow.
- What is the best thing that can happen once you navigated the change? Let this be your driving force.
- What potential obstacles can be identified and resolved before they have a chance to transpire? Write them down and tackle them one by one.
- What do you need to learn or resources do you need to set you up for success? Learn it right in the beginning! Take the class, read the book, hire the coach.
- 5. Who can you rely on to help you during this time? Ask for help!
Create a daily affirmation or mantra to keep yourself grounded in growth and opportunity. For example, “I am ready to receive amazing and wonderful experiences today!” or “I have the resources and skills that I need to succeed!”. Remember, affirmations are a great way to remind yourself of the outcome you are looking for. Rather than focus on what can go wrong, look at all of the ways it can go right!
Change can cause fear and anxiety however approaching it from a positive perspective initially sets you on the course of growth, opportunity and possibility. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?!
