Have you ever noticed when you immerse yourself into a creative project, task, or play that fills you with joy, the disempowering whispers of your inner critic quiet down, and your mind and heart feel more connected with your inner wisdom?
When you begin to pay attention, you’ll discover when you’re in the zone of creativity, playing and doing something fun that that speaks to you, you’ll feel more aligned with spirit. You’ll likely also notice your task-oriented mind settles down, the answers you are seeking appear, and new inspired ideas seem to magically drop into your awareness.
Why Creativity and Play Matters
When you are doing things you love and truly enjoy, you are connecting to a higher plane, you become closer to the truth of who you are, and it feels really good. You are energetically vibrating at a higher level than where your inner critic resides, so her voice falls away and gives room for your inner wisdom to move into your awareness.
As you engage in play more, the creative neuropathways on the right side of your brain will reignite to the point that creativity and fun becomes your desire on a consistent basis. The more you play, the happier you’ll be, and your energetic vibration will increase significantly, bringing more good things into your life’s path. It’s quite magical when this happens.
8 Awe-Inspiring Benefits of Making Space and Time for Creativity and Play
- Creativity and play connect you directly to your spirit and higher-level energies. It enhances your connection to your inner wisdom. Your creativity is already a part of your Divine human design and it’s the place where your higher self wants you to play.
- Using your imagination creatively helps you to grow beyond your self-imposed borders of “shoulds” and “have tos”. You become open to unique ideas and insights which leads you to greater innovation and excitement within your life.
- Creativity makes room for solutions to drop into your awareness as you soothe and relax the inner critic’s chatter (which usually cascades out all of the reasons and excuses you can’t or won’t find answers to your perceived problems).
- Engaging in creative endeavors reminds you of your self-worth and builds self-confidence.
- The more you surrender to your creativity, the more you’ll desire to prioritize this sacred time, and life starts to flow with even more ease and grace.
- Creativity brings you into a present moment awareness as the past seemingly falls away, the “to do” lists stop mattering for a bit, and the future shines brighter in these self-nurturing moments.
- Play makes your heart happy. It just feels good! You’ll feel more peace, calm, and vibrate and at higher energetic frequency where the Universe will reply in kind with higher energetic opportunities being brought into your awareness.
- You become more peaceful, patient, and content, both in your sense of your true self, and for your increased ability to give and receive love and care for and with those around you.
There Are No Rules for Creative Play
Creative play can be had in virtually anything that you enjoy doing or can lose yourself in. From a multitude of art forms like painting or creating a collage, writing or journaling, to gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, painting a room, building a “she shed”, landscaping, to even the satisfaction gained from organizing a pantry or messy closet. Maybe your creativity comes in the form of creating unusual uses for common things.
Think about the things you’ve always wanted to try and take a class or buy a kit online. Dig back into childhood to think about what you liked then. Did you ever create hook and loop potholders, macaroni frames, hooked rugs, fabric covered photo albums, beaded bracelets, handmade cards, or homemade candles or holiday ornaments? How did your younger self feel when you engaged in these activities?
Just Get Started
- Just say yes and get started! Give yourself permission and time to play as often as you can. Your heart needs you to let your hair down a bit.
- When your inner critic starts to chatter (and she will), just say “thank you, I hear you, and now I’m going to play”. Don’t allow her to get you down; simply enjoy your creative commitment to yourself as you connect with your inner wisdom instead.
- Don’t worry about being perfect. Do it just for the joy of it. If it’s a picture you’re painting, don’t worry about framing it or having to put it on your wall. Do it just for you and frame it anyway (or don’t) as you choose.
- No boundaries. Try something new. Do it your way. Follow the instructions only if you want to. Color outside of the lines.
- It doesn’t have to be costly. Play with what you have on hand.
- Immerse all of your senses into the activity. How does it feel to you? What can you taste, see, hear, or smell? What memories might it bring up for you?
- Would a ritual enhance your creativity time? What if you were to light candles, surround yourself with crystals, and sip your favorite beverage during your creativity time? Would those make your experience more enticing and joyful?
