On any given day, the average person will have over 50,000 thoughts. Of these, over 80% can be negative. If you want to clean up your life, start by cleaning up your thoughts.
In doing research for my next book, Adventures for Your Soul (August 25, Berkley Books), as well as coaching clients, I have identified some of the top self-sabotaging thoughts that keep us from being happy.
How happy would you consider yourself? Today, I consider myself an extremely happy person, but it hasn’t always been that way. The truth is that I’ve made HUGE strides to be where I am today. I overcame clinical depression, drug addictions, eating disorders and corporate burnout, but through all of the turbulent times of life, I learned there is purpose to our pain. I started to look at my problems as pathways to new growth and opportunity.
Is there an area in your life where you’ve lost the ability to dream? Why do some people enjoy more happiness and health than others?
They’re able to put their mind to goals and they actualize rapidly. These people see opportunities when others see closed doors. They handle setbacks with grace and ease. What if there were a way we could all confidently move in the direction of our goals? After all, we all want happiness and health, but despite our best efforts and honest attempts, most of us fall short of reaching these goals.
If you feel stuck here are six easy ways to be happier right now.
1. Break Up with Your Issues
Most of us focus on what we don’t like about life and ourselves, which keeps us from feeling joy. Focus on what you want and you will feel happier in the moment.
2. Lean into Love
In every given moment we have a choice to either choose love or fear. Most of us let fear decide our fate, which keeps us stuck and sad. Practice cultivating your inner faith muscles and choose love.
3. Follow Your Joy Route
Do what you love everyday. Following your joy route and doing what makes you happy will give you more satisfaction in all areas of your life.
4. Rock the Reflection
If you are worried about what others will think about you, instead turn your attention inward and focus on feeling confident within yourself. When we hold up an energetic mirror to problem situations we can learn that everything is a reflection. If you want others to believe in you and support you, first support yourself.
5. Let Go
Elsa on Frozen said it best, let your worries go. Life is way to short to hold on to grudges or feel frustrated with life. Forgive and let go of what you can’t control. If you want guidance to help you release resentment grab this FREE meditation I created.
6. Play with the World
If you want to reach a happy state add more play into your life. When you feel more love and joy, you maintain a positive outlook on life.
I love #1 – break up with your issues. YUP!
