As I was leaving the bank, recently, one of the managers waved me over to her office. I popped my head in to say hi and she began telling me how challenging her day had been. To which I inquired whether she was happy doing this type of work. She said “not as happy as you…”
So I confided in her that being a lawyer isn’t what lights me up. I continue to practice law because I have reached a point in my practice that I can be extremely selective about who I accept as a client. Those who I select must align with my vibration and my purpose. But what really makes me happy is teaching women the tools to boldly reclaim their own path and purpose.
These words seemed to wash over her like I was speaking Mandarin and she appeared to have no recognition of the meaning. This woman, like so many I encounter, has been repressed by society’s expectations and values imposed on its members. Clearly, I have learned to overcome that little element of outside pressure.
This opportunity exists for all who wish to claim it. Shed the layers of what society (to be read: your mother, your pastor, your husband and everyone else) has created and take this opportunity of global expansion to claim your authentic self!
The following 3 strategies are tools that I use every day to stay in my lane and my brilliance – without giving in to the pressure to be who others think I should be.
1.Stay Connected to Mother Earth (Gaia)
Mother Earth is a channel, a magnet and divining rod, all in one accessible place. Your connection to Mother Earth is necessary for physical and spiritual health and healing. Ashes to Ashes is pretty accurate… we are made of the same substance as Mother Earth. Our frenzied human experience tends to distract us from the divine connection we have with the earth. The best way to keep that connection is to practice grounding.
Grounding and connecting with the Earth is one of the most important elements keeping us aligned with our true purpose and path. The farther we move away from our grounded connection with the Earth, the more susceptible we are to the influence of the outside world. As a part of my everyday practice, I spend a few minutes grounding and connecting to Mother Earth. This allows for more ease and flow in dealing with the energies that I encounter every day. This daily practice also allows me the perspective to keep my vision on my path and purpose without distractions.
2. Use Your Spiritual Support Team
I heard someone say you come into this life alone and you will leave it alone… I have true sorrow for those who are not aware of the innumerable members of your posse. You ALWAYS have support and guidance from them. The group of souls that surrounds you, is present intentionally to make your experience the best that it can possibly be, in this incarnation. I am also guilty of not listening on occasion, but really all we need to do is to open to receive guidance and messages from our spiritual support team.
Every soul has a team of spirit guides, many of whom are with you from birth to death. They are exclusive to you during your lifetime. There are various other guides that come into your life for a specific purpose but then they move on to assist another once you no longer have a need for them. Then there are Ascended Masters who are just amazing to work with! These divine souls have specialties, and can work with many humans at once. Each of them has the purpose and desire to assist you. All you have to do is ask. I work with many Goddesses who are also Ascended Masters, but one of my favorites is Kuan Yin. She is the Chinese Goddess of Mercy and one of her most important (in my opinion) messages is to have mercy toward yourself. This message is one that all of us need to hear at certain times.
Your space is filled with guidance, support and love from your spiritual team. My suggestion to you is to shut up and listen.
3. Allow Your OWN Voice to be Present
When you speak or respond … whose voice do you hear? I endeavor to hear my own every time I speak. When the woman from the bank asserted that I was happier than she, I could have let the voice that succumbs to social influence answer and say – “I know, I’m lucky to be a lawyer…” but that isn’t my sincere position. When I talk to people about their spiritual path or what blocks are coming up for them—that is my authentic voice. You will recognize it by the feeling of divine energy flowing through you and carrying the conversation to places you never intended to go.
One part of practicing law that I love, is showing people the different perceptions available to them, and then allowing them to choice the one most aligned with their inner voice. Recently, a woman came to see me, as a lawyer, after her father’s passing. She expressed resentment toward her step mother and shared with me that she was not permitted to have a few items her father left behind. I could have easily said – “what a bitch! You are entitled to something”… but I saw the opportunity not only to assist her to heal about the items, but allow her to mourn her father.
So I explained to her that the tangible items were not necessary to feel her connection to her father. Her relationship with her father can be even stronger now that there are no human conventions to get in the way. I also explained to her that she may consider feeling sorrow for her step-mother because she has created her situation of loneliness and desperation, all by herself. After a few tips on connecting with her father, she left – definitively more aligned with her soul than she had arrived.
I feel is it is my obligation to the world to provide others with a perspective that allows them to find, feel comfortable with and embrace their own voice. It is a direct view into your soul and the divine nature that flows through all of us.
